No matter how young at heart we may be, Old Father Time still counts down on the granules of our life expectancy. As we age, we become less able to handle sugars in our diet as a result of declining hormone levels. The body cleverly thinks we may be facing a famine some day, so it stores the extra energy as body fat.

BMI is a close approximation of our body fat content. Insurance companies have assigned a risk level of health problems by your BMI. To find out where you stand, calculate your Body Mass Index then look at these guidelines:

If your BMI is

20-24.9 Congratulations! You are not fat and have a healthy lifestyle!

25-29.9 you are mildly obese with a low risk of health problems.

30-35.9 you are moderately obese with a moderate health risk.

35-40 you are a clinically obese with a high health risk.

greater than 40 you are severely obese and at a staggering risk for health problems.
